THE CAVE

I was exploring a sea cave along the coast when the tide started coming in faster than expected.

The entrance was already half underwater.

I knew I had to leave.

Then I heard a voice deeper inside the cave.

“Help!”

It sounded like a young boy.

I grabbed my flashlight and followed the sound.

The cave narrowed into a dark tunnel.

Again, I heard it.

“Help! I’m stuck!”

The voice sounded scared.

Desperate.

And very close.

I turned a corner and found a small opening in the rock.

The voice was coming from inside.

“Please hurry!”

I squeezed through and crawled toward the sound.

Then my flashlight beam landed on the ground.

There were footprints in the mud.

Hundreds of them.

All leading into the tunnel.

None leading back out.

Then the voice spoke again.

This time right behind me.
