The school was empty.
Classes had ended hours ago.
The janitor was locking doors when he heard something strange.
A loud flutter.

But when he switched on the lights, he froze.
Something was trapped inside.

A young owl had somehow entered the gym through a ventilation opening.
Unable to find its way out, it spent the entire day flying into walls and windows.
By evening, the bird was exhausted.
Too tired to fly.
The janitor contacted a local wildlife rescuer.
Together, they carefully darkened the gym and guided the owl toward an open exit.
For several tense minutes, nothing happened.
Then the owl spread its wings.
Lifted into the air.
And disappeared into the night.
The janitor later joked that he expected to spend the evening locking doors.
Instead, he helped a wild owl get home.
