When the ambulance drove away…
everyone noticed the dog.
A small brown dog running behind it.
As fast as he could.
The ambulance turned the corner.
But the dog kept running.
People watched in confusion.
Then a nurse inside the ambulance looked through the window.
And realized something heartbreaking.
The dog wasn’t chasing the ambulance.
He was following his owner.
The old man inside the ambulance had collapsed on the street.
The dog had refused to leave him.
But when the ambulance left…
the dog kept running after it.

Licking the old man’s hand.
The man slowly opened his eyes.
Weak…
but smiling.

was his loyal dog sitting beside him.
Later that day the hospital staff placed a small blanket on the floor next to the bed.
The dog refused to leave the room.
And the nurses said something they had never seen before.
The old man’s heartbeat stabilized faster every time the dog touched him.
