The Stranger Left a Note on My Car

When I got back to my car, I noticed a piece of paper tucked under the windshield wiper.

My first thought was that it was a parking ticket.

It wasn’t.

It was a handwritten note.

Just one sentence.

“Please check your rear bumper.”

Confused, I walked around the car.

At first, everything looked normal.

Then I crouched down and saw something attached underneath.

I had no idea who left it there.

Or why.

Part 2 in the comments.

Attached underneath my rear bumper was a small zippered pouch.

Inside was a set of keys.

Not my keys.

There was also another note.

It explained that someone had accidentally dropped the pouch while loading their vehicle nearby earlier that day.

A stranger had found it but couldn’t locate the owner.

Instead of leaving it on the ground where anyone could take it, they secured it to my car because it was parked closest to where the keys had been lost.

The note included a phone number.

I called it.

Within an hour, the owner arrived.

The keys belonged to his work van and contained access cards, office keys, and important documents.

He had been searching everywhere.

The relief on his face was immediate.

What amazed me most wasn’t finding the keys.

It was realizing that a complete stranger had gone out of their way to help someone they’d never meet.

Sometimes people are better than we expect.
