My dog never barks for no reason.
So when he started barking nonstop at a small lake during our morning walk, I paid attention.
He kept pulling on the leash.
Barking.
Running back and forth along the shore.
I couldn’t see anything.

No people.
No animals.
Nothing.
Then he suddenly jumped into the water.
That’s when I noticed something floating in the distance.
And I realized why he’d been trying so hard to get my attention.
Part 2 in the comments.
I followed my dog to the edge of the lake and looked more closely.
Floating near some reeds was a small kitten.
It was trapped on a piece of debris and couldn’t get back to shore.
My dog had spotted it long before I did.
He swam toward the kitten and stayed nearby, barking until I called for help.
A few minutes later, another walker arrived with a long branch.
Together, we managed to bring the kitten safely back to land.
Cold and frightened, but unharmed.
The kitten was taken to a local rescue center and later adopted.
As for my dog?
He spent the rest of the walk looking very proud of himself.
And honestly, he deserved to.
That morning, he saved a life.
