The Kayaker Thought the Log Was Breathing

The lake was completely silent.

No boats.

No people.

Just a lone kayaker crossing the water.

Ahead, he noticed what looked like an old log floating near the reeds.

Then the log moved.

A second later, it moved again.

The kayaker stopped paddling.

Something wasn’t right.

Because whatever was floating there looked exhausted.

And barely alive.

The “log” was a young deer.

The animal had entered the lake from a muddy shoreline and become trapped among thick reeds.

Each attempt to escape pushed it deeper into the vegetation.

By the time the kayaker found it, the deer had spent hours struggling.

Exhausted and frightened, it could barely lift its head above the water.

The kayaker called wildlife rescue and stayed nearby to prevent the animal from sinking.

Rescuers eventually reached the scene by boat.

Working together, they carefully guided the deer through a narrow opening in the reeds.

Once free, the animal climbed onto the shore and stood motionless.

Then it slowly disappeared into the forest.

The kayaker later said he set out looking for a peaceful morning.

Instead, he helped save a life.
