The Groundskeeper Kept Hearing Something in the Soccer Goal

The soccer field was empty.

Practice had ended hours ago.

The groundskeeper was preparing to lock the gates when he heard it.

A faint rustling sound.

Coming from inside the goal net.

At first, he assumed it was the wind.

Then it happened again.

And again.

The sound wasn’t moving away.

It was trapped.

The moment he walked closer, he dropped everything and called for help.

A young fox had become tangled in the lower section of the goal net.

The more it struggled, the tighter the net wrapped around its legs.

By the time the groundskeeper found it, the animal was exhausted.

Wildlife rescuers arrived quickly.

Working slowly, they cut away sections of the net while keeping the fox calm.

For several tense minutes, nobody knew if the animal had been injured.

Then the final strand came loose.

The fox stood still.

Looked around.

And suddenly sprinted across the field toward nearby woods.

The entire rescue lasted less than thirty minutes.

But the groundskeeper said he checked every goal net a little more carefully after that.
