Every morning, the baker found the same thing.
Tiny paw prints.
Right across the flour.
At first, he blamed mice.
Then he set traps.
Nothing.
The next night he installed a camera.
Still nothing.
Yet every morning…
the paw prints returned.
Always starting at the back door.
Always ending beside the warm oven.
One freezing winter morning, the baker decided to stay overnight.
At 3:42 AM…
he finally saw who had been visiting him.
And immediately put down his coffee.

A tiny orange kitten squeezed through a broken vent near the back door.
Thin.
Dirty.
And shivering.
Instead of searching for food, the kitten walked directly toward the oven.
Then curled up beside it.
Fast asleep.
The baker later discovered an abandoned shed nearby where stray cats often hid from the cold.
Most nights were below freezing.
The kitten had found the only warm place it could.
The next evening, the baker left a blanket beside the oven.
And a bowl of food.
Within a week, the kitten no longer ran away.
Months later, customers entering the bakery were often greeted by an orange cat sleeping beside the same oven.
Still leaving paw prints.
Just no longer alone.
