The Bus Driver Stopped for Something Nobody Else Could See

The passengers were confused.

The road ahead was empty.

No accident.

No traffic.

No construction.

Yet the bus driver suddenly hit the brakes.

Hard.

He stared through the windshield for several seconds.

Then opened the doors and ran outside.

People pressed their faces against the windows trying to understand.

So small it was almost invisible.

Its legs were tangled in discarded plastic netting.

The animal struggled every time a vehicle passed.

Most drivers never noticed it.

The bus driver did.

He later explained that he grew up on a farm and recognized the movement immediately.

Traffic stopped while he carefully approached.

After several minutes, the netting was cut away.

The frightened fawn slowly stood.

For a moment it remained completely still.

Then it disappeared into the nearby woods.
