Nobody knew where the dog came from.
For two days, he sat beside a roadside drain.
Rain came.
Cars passed.
People walked by.
The dog never left.
Animal rescuers were called twice.
But every time someone approached, the dog backed away.
Then returned to the exact same spot.
The rescuers thought he was frightened.
Until one volunteer knelt beside the drain and listened.

Deep inside the concrete drain was a tiny puppy.
Cold.
Hungry.
And trapped beyond reach.
Nobody knew how it got there.
The adult dog wasn’t the puppy’s father.
Wasn’t even related.
Local residents later reported seeing the stray bringing food scraps to the drain for days.
While people passed by, the dog stayed.
While it rained, the dog stayed.
While the puppy cried from below, the dog stayed.
Rescuers eventually removed part of a metal grate and safely recovered the puppy.
The moment the puppy was placed on a blanket, the stray dog immediately walked over and lay beside it.
Witnesses later said it looked as if he’d been waiting for permission to finally rest.
