The workers tried three times.
Every time they approached the old tree, the dog ran in front of it.
Barking.
Whining.
Refusing to move.

The mother cat was nowhere to be seen.
The dog had apparently discovered them earlier that morning.
Nobody knew how long he had been guarding them.
But workers quickly realized something.
