Every morning…
the lighthouse door was locked.

A young seal had discovered a narrow maintenance tunnel connected to the rocks below the lighthouse.
At high tide, the tunnel filled just enough with seawater for the curious animal to crawl inside.
Every dawn it wandered through the empty building before returning to the sea.
Marine biologists later confirmed the tunnel had existed for decades but was almost never accessible.
The keeper sealed the dangerous staircase but left the tunnel untouched.
