The farmer heard terrified chirping from the yard.
When he ran outside…
All the chicks were hiding beneath their mother.
A large snake was slithering closer.
The farmer grabbed his shovel.
But before he could reach them…
The hen did something nobody expected.
And the snake never saw it coming.
PART 2 IN COMMENT
The snake moved slowly through the grass.
Its eyes locked on the tiny chicks.
The frightened babies huddled beneath their mother’s wings.
The farmer ran toward them, afraid he would be too late.
But the mother hen didn’t run.
She stepped forward.
Alone.
As the snake lunged, the hen exploded into action.
She flapped her wings, pecked fiercely, and threw herself directly at the predator.
Again.
And again.
The snake tried to strike, but the hen refused to back down.
Every attack pushed the snake farther from her babies.
Finally, after several tense moments, the snake retreated into the tall grass.
Only then did the exhausted hen return to her chicks.
They rushed from beneath her wings and gathered around her.
The farmer stood in silence.
He had seen many animals protect their young.
But he had never witnessed courage quite like that.
That tiny mother had risked everything for her babies.
