The Old Man Crossed the River Every Day With His Horse… Until People Learned Why

Every morning at sunrise, an old man led his horse across a shallow river.

Every evening, they crossed back again.

For years, nobody questioned it.

Then one day, a traveler asked him:

“What’s on the other side?”

The old man just smiled.

“Nothing.”

The answer made no sense.

There were no farms there.

No town.

No market.

Nothing worth visiting.

Yet he never missed a day.

Rain.

Snow.

Even storms.

The old man and his horse always crossed the river.

When he suddenly stopped showing up, the villagers became worried.

A week later, they decided to cross the river themselves.

What they found on the other side left them speechless.

Part 2 is in the comments.

The villagers followed the old man’s path through a small grove of trees.

Hidden beyond it was a simple wooden grave.

Beside it stood a bench.

And dozens of wildflowers.

A note had been left there.

It read:

“My wife loved this place. We used to come here together every morning. After she passed away, my horse kept walking this path. So I kept walking it too.”

The villagers stood in silence.

For years, they had thought the old man was chasing a secret.

But he was simply keeping a promise.

The next morning, the villagers returned.

This time carrying fresh flowers.

And from that day on, no one laughed when they saw someone holding on to a memory.
