Every night at exactly 2:17 a.m., my neighbor’s porch light turned on.
It had happened for months.
The strange part? The house was supposed to be empty.
One night I finally walked over to check. The yard was overgrown, the windows were dusty, and no car had been there since the owner died last year.
But the porch light clicked on the moment I reached the gate.
I looked through the front window.
Inside, a table lamp was glowing.
Next to it sat a notebook opened to a single page.
On the page were six words written in shaky handwriting:
“You came a day too early.”
Part 2 in the comments.
I called the police the next morning.
They searched the house and found no one inside.
But they did find a second note hidden under the notebook.
It was dated the next day.
“If someone reads this, tell my daughter I tried to come home.”
Later that afternoon, a woman arrived at the house. She had inherited it after her father disappeared twenty years earlier.
When she saw the handwriting, she started crying.
It was his.
