Eight-year-old Ethan was playing near a small creek behind his grandparents’ house when he suddenly screamed.
His mother ran toward him and froze.
A snake was slithering away through the grass.
Ethan was clutching his leg, crying in pain.
Within minutes, his leg began to swell.
His family rushed him to the hospital, terrified they might not get there in time.
But just before the doctors took him into treatment, Ethan grabbed his mother’s hand and whispered something that made her burst into tears.

He was worried about his best friend.
Fortunately, the doctors acted quickly, and Ethan made a full recovery.
When he finally returned home two days later, his dog ran straight to him, wagging his tail so hard he could barely stand.
Ethan wrapped his arms around him and smiled.
“I told you I’d come back.”
