Every night…
The dog refused to come inside.
He ran straight to the old oak tree in the backyard.
And started digging.
Frantically.
Like something was calling him.
The owner tried to stop him.
But the dog wouldn’t listen.
Night after night…
Same place.
Same behavior.
Until one evening…
The ground finally gave way.
And the dog suddenly froze.
Completely still.
Staring into the hole.
The owner grabbed a flashlight…
And shined it inside.
What he saw made his breath stop.

Was an old wooden box.
Covered in dirt.
And inside it…
A worn collar.
And a faded photo of the dog as a puppy…
Standing next to a child.
The owner realized the truth instantly.
The dog hadn’t randomly chosen that tree.
It was the exact spot where his previous family had once lived…
Before they moved away years ago.
The dog had come back…
To the only place that still felt like home.
That night…
The owner didn’t bring him inside.
He sat beside him under the stars.
And let him stay there a little longer.
