The Deer Was Frozen in the Middle of the Lake

Nobody understood why the deer wasn’t moving.

It stood alone on the frozen lake.

Hour after hour.

Not walking.

Not running.

Not eating.

At first people assumed it was resting.

Then a wildlife officer looked through binoculars.

And immediately grabbed his radio.

Because the deer wasn’t standing by choice.

One of the deer’s legs had slipped into a narrow crack in the ice.

The animal had become trapped.

Every attempt to free itself only made things worse.

By the time rescuers arrived, the deer had been stuck for hours.

Exhausted.

Cold.

Terrified.

The rescue team carefully crawled across the ice using safety ropes.

After nearly forty minutes, they managed to free the animal.

For several seconds, the deer remained motionless.

Then it slowly stood.

Looked back toward the rescuers.

And disappeared into the forest.

The entire rescue was captured by local residents watching from shore.

Many later admitted they held their breath the entire time.
