The Puppy Nobody Wanted Was Found in the Rain

The volunteer almost drove past him.

Almost.

It was raining hard.

The road was empty.

And beside a ditch sat a tiny puppy.

Soaked.

Shivering.

At first she thought he was already dead.

Then she noticed something.

The puppy wasn’t trying to move.

Wasn’t barking.

Wasn’t running away.

He was simply staring at the road.

A veterinarian later estimated he was only seven weeks old.

Weak from hunger.

Covered in fleas.

And suffering from an injured front paw.

The saddest part wasn’t his condition.

It was what happened during the rescue.

As the volunteer approached, the puppy began wagging his tail.

Not because he knew her.

Because he thought she was the person who had left him there.

The person he had been waiting for.

The volunteer wrapped him in a blanket and carried him to safety.

Months later, the same puppy was adopted by a family with two children.
