The Librarian Thought Someone Was Sleeping Between the Shelves

Every evening before closing, the librarian heard the same sound.

A soft rustling.

Between the shelves.

At first she ignored it.

Then one evening she whispered:

“Hello?”

Silence.

The sound returned.

Very softly.

Almost like breathing.

The librarian grabbed a flashlight.

Walked toward the children’s section.

And suddenly stopped.

Two tiny eyes were staring back at her.

Hidden behind the lowest shelf was a baby owl.

The bird was frightened.

Exhausted.

And unable to fly.

A wildlife rescuer later discovered a storm had damaged a nest in a nearby tree.

The young owl likely entered the library through an open window.

The librarian stayed beside it for nearly an hour.

Speaking softly.

Keeping the room quiet.

When rescuers finally placed the owl in a transport box, something unexpected happened.

The owl gently stepped onto the librarian’s hand.

And stayed there.

Just for a moment.

Before being carried away.

The librarian later said:

“I’ve spent my whole life surrounded by stories.

For one evening…

I got to live inside one.”
